A Message from Mrs Campbell

Kia ora te whānau

It's hard to believe we're already halfway through the term. The days are getting longer, and with the warm summer weather starting to peek through, there’s a real buzz of activity around Our Kura. It's a beautiful place.

Planning for the next school year is always an exciting but complex task, and we are currently working on our 2026 Class Placements.
Our staff put a lot of thought into this process. They look at a wide range of factors to create classroom lists that best suit the learning and social needs of every child. We want to ensure each student is placed in an environment where they can thrive.
Adding on to the last updates regarding staff

We are pleased that Vanessa Packer is returning from maternity leave to be a part-time release teacher. Welcome back, Vanessa. We are also proud to keep Gillian Taylor and Dale Gyton in their release reader roles for 2026.

Chloe Thorne will be joining us and beginning her teaching career next year. Chloe lives locally and can't wait to join our Kākano team next year. We hope to see Chloe here before the end of the year for a few visits.

I am thrilled to announce that Bridgette Wright will be joining our school full-time to share her specialist literacy knowledge. Brigette is a highly regarded Resource Teacher of Literacy (RtLit) across the Upper Hutt Cluster, and, with the Ministry of Education removing this nationwide role, we have been fortunate to keep Bridgette with us and utilise her incredible skills.

We head into a busy time of the year. Please review the essential dates below and check your emails for updates.

A reminder that our last day of the term is
Wednesday 17 December and we finish at 2pm.

2025 Camp

A week later, students are still buzzing with pride, reflecting on their successful experiences at Camp Makahika.

They have returned to school life with increased determination, partnership, and resilience, hallmarks of their accomplishments at camp.

We would like to extend a special, heartfelt thank you to our dedicated adult volunteers. Your time, energy, commitment, and sense of fun were invaluable, ensuring our students were well-cared for, our teaching staff were fully supported, and the overall camp was a resounding success. We are eternally grateful for your contribution.

PRIDE @ UHS

Due to a nationwide shortage of the colour product needed for the colour run, we have made the tough decision to reschedule this for the beginning of 2026. What a great launch to the year it wil be.

It’s been a great term for golden acorns so far. Here are the latest points, with Integrity still in the lead!

SPORTS

Regional Athletics
A huge congratulations to the four students who have been selected for the Regional Athletics! We wish the four Year 4s who qualified all the best next week as they compete.

Touch Rugby Continues
Our touch rugby games are well underway, with students showing great teamwork, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship each week. It has been wonderful to see so many players giving their best on the field and supporting one another. Keep up the excellent effort.

Sport Shirts Reminder
As we approach the end of the year, we kindly ask that any borrowed sports shirts be returned to school. This helps us keep our sports uniform sets complete for future teams and events.
There’s not too much to report this term, but we do have one exciting event coming up - a sausage sizzle at the Touch Tournament on Wednesday, 26th November at Awakairangi Park. Funds raised from this will go towards purchasing much-needed sports gear for our students. We’d love to see you there and appreciate your support!

It was wonderful to see our students performing at the Upper Hutt Cultural Festival this week, proudly wearing their brand-new uniforms. A huge thank you to our school community - your generosity and ongoing fundraising support made this possible
