A Message from Mrs Campbell
Schools are busy and exciting places, and Upper Hutt certainly has that vibe. There’s always some fun action going on. Just this week, we have ticked off
- Trips: Whirinaki, Road Patroller movie, Swimming, Transition to Intermediate
- Visitors: HIBS Road Show
- Nga Kaiārahi Lunch activities
And the next few weeks hold trips to Maidston Max, H20, onsite fun and more
As we near the end of term, it's still very important to keep on top of everything so your children are organised for the day with what they need. We know a lot is going on.
I want to update you on which Hub our awesome akonga will be teaching next year. Our meet the 2026 class visit is on Tuesday 10 December.

Last Week’s amazing talent quest
A massive thank you to our incredible performers who showed great PRIDE in their performances. The Talent Quest team did an outstanding job of creating this event.
Well done to our selected winners, Ella Portman, Mackenzie and Callah-Ann Murray.

Our Mural
We unveiled our latest mural last week. The theme is Whakapapa.
This would not have been possible without the incredible talent and dedication of our artist, Amy Burrell. Amy, thank you for listening to our stories, for seeing our vision, and for skilfully weaving these individual threads into a cohesive, beautiful tapestry.
Our five young artists, thank you for your passion and for the hard mahi to complete these taonga for all to enjoy every time they enter our Kura.
Look closely at the artwork. It is vibrant. It is complex, showing the exact images created by the tamariki across our school. They show our oldest and youngest student (at the time) being supported by the hands.
Woven around the hands are images that showcase the diverse cultures that make our Kura so rich. They are, quite literally, our voices pulled together, painted onto a canvas for all to see and appreciate.

Kaitiaki Tamariki Exploration
On Tuesday, a group of ten Year 5 Kaitiaki tamariki, accompanied by Gillian and Whaea Chelsea, visited the Maidstone Recycling Centre to learn all about recycling.
The group took part in a “litter blitz” and had the chance to use a special piece of equipment called a litter grabber. Armed with gloves, rubbish bags, and their grabbers, they enthusiastically tackled the Maidstone Max Litter Blitz Challenge.
During their visit, the students discovered what happens to recycling in Upper Hutt. Kyle, Upper Hutt City Council’s Waste Minimisation Officer, shared his expertise and answered many thoughtful questions. Michelle, our Enviroschools Coordinator, provided grabbers and gloves, and a special thank you goes to Keep Hutt Valley Beautiful for supplying additional equipment.
Ka rawe, Kaitiaki tamariki! We are so proud of the learning, curiosity, and mahi you showed throughout the trip.

PRIDE @ UHS
The PRIDE competition for Ngā Kaiārahi week was a fast-paced lunchtime Pictionary event.
The House Leaders facilitated a game where everyone took turns drawing a random item (from a strip of paper drawn from a container). If their team could guess it, they scored a point, grabbed the next clue, and the next person would draw. The stakes were high, as each point earned them 10 House Points!
Here are points earned for the competition:
The 2025 House Leaders have been amazing at running events and coming up with ideas.
They have led with enthusiasm and have been massive helpers. It is not an easy job for one teacher, but it becomes a very fun and easy job when you have fifteen awesome helpers! Thank you House Leaders!

Our 4 amazing Year 4s ventured over the hill and competed in the Regional athletics in Masterton. Congratulations to Delphi Lambert, Evie Britton, Bella Love-Toma and Mason Hammond.
Thanks to the parents who supported our athletes.
